Review of A Better Life (2011) by Dave P — 28 Oct 2011
I thought the movie was good because it informs the viewer of what it might be like for illegal immigrants w/ children working here in the USA, of the almost silent conflict between parents and teens, of the ignorance of youth, of the pressures for young poor urban kids to join a gang, of doing the right thing even if it is going to hurt you badly.
Well acted. Watch the deleted scenes, too, the second time with the director's commentary turned on--I especially liked the deleted scene where the two main characters are on the bus. I will offer this movie to my students to watch for an extra credit thought paper assignment.
