Review of A Beautiful Mind (2001) by Stephen E — 22 May 2012
You can stand around and point out the flaws of "A Beautiful Mind" any day of the week, but that doesn't at all detract from the film's power. Yes, there are problems with the script.
Yes, there are some cheap editing tricks here and there. But where "A Beautiful Mind" succeeds is in the magnetic performances that its cast delivers, the subtle direction that Ron Howard takes, and the beautiful cinematography from the always-trusty Roger Deakins.
In the end, "A Beautiful Mind" tries to be something great and comes up short only by a little. You can't fault it for lack of trying.
