Review of A Beautiful Mind (2001) by Robert V — 23 Jul 2013
A Beautiful Mind is a film that would probably have been very boring in the hands of any other director, but Ron Howard is a filmmaker with great skills to entertain and this was no exception.
The acting was top-notch by the ensemble cast, both leading and supporting actors. The screenplay was fine but not perfect, and Howard's work behind the camera enhanced it. The story was captivating and very interesting, however I have always felt that despite its undeniable merits, it does not really have what it takes to become a true classic; this is why I think that this film will be remebered in the future mainly for having won the Oscar for Best Picture.
It was a film that since its inception was made to win a bunch of awards, and this does not diminishes its quality in any way but because of that some aspects of it I find them a bit too prefabricated. Nevertheless it is definitely a very well done film that deals with very interesting subjects but it will never be a favorite of mine.
