Review of A Beautiful Mind (2001) by Scotty D — 04 May 2014
With some of the finest acting I've seen in a while, especially from Crowe, this is a very powerful portrayal of schizophrenia. Where as most Hollywood "based on a true story" movies tend to be thin and overly dramatic, this film takes this story, that of a brilliant scientist with a troubled brain, and turns it into a beautifully shot, well-acted drama that turns to being a thriller in many spots.
The reveal in the middle of the film still shocked me (even after having experinced similar plot twists in Shutter Island), and made me want to go back and rewatch to analyze what's real and what isn't.
I had heard a lot of great things about this movie, and it truly lived up to its expectations.
