Review of 976-EVIL (1988) by Senor C — 07 Oct 2006
976-EVIL actually has a novel b-horror movie concept (the idea of calling a 'Satanic' 900 line for advice is not a bad one) and w/ Robert 'Freddy Krueger' Englund @ the helm it seems it may be a seminal classic.
Unfortunately the script is unbelievably weak and the jokes are worse than late Nightmare on Elm Street entries. It suffers from what many horror flix in the postmortem late 80s suffered from - it's not scary and it's far from cool (even though it would like to think it's the latter of the two).
Basically a hour and a half of modest misfires and wishful franchising (I tried to watch the sequel which was on immediately following but only made it through about 15 minutes; it was no better..actually it seemed worse).
