Review of 9 Songs (2004) by Billy B — 04 Nov 2007
This is a rather adventurous film and represents a new breed of film making, of a sorts. It's a bit documentary, music video and porn.Just the ticket MTV would like to be if Viacom wasn't controled by the FCC.
I think that it captures real aspects of lives that revolve around cutting edge music, if not cutting edge, then at least the culture revolving around blossoming new musical groups. Why would I say that, well, because I've experienced very simular events to this when my life was deeply emerced in music culture.
Music, crazy fuckin and drugs. It's like a summer of love, it flurishes with heat and frenzy for a while, and then comes the burnout and dis-illusionment. It was a fun watch. The music was great. The sex was pretty good too.
I think that the movie attemps to be more serious than it can possiblely be, but it's worth watching with great live performances from today's coolest groups.
