Review of 9 Songs (2004) by Steven C — 15 Mar 2010
I am not entirely sure what Michael Winterbottom was trying to do with this film. I know it's supposed to be a relationship study but all we get to know about these people is that the girl can be emotionally unstable and the guy is emotionally distant.
They also like to have sex and go to concerts. Thats the entire film. (Real) sex scenes and (real) concert footage. It baffles me that Winterbottom (director of the fantastic "A Mighty Heart"), would deliver such a bore.
Even the sex scenes are boring, minus a couple close ups that seriously pushed the limits at the time of it's release. Overall, "9 Songs" is dull and distant, much like it's characters.
