Review of 8MM (1999) by Liam C — 31 Mar 2013
8mm was a real film. I was totally interested in the film and never got bored with it. The film is relevant because these type of things actually do happen in the real world, it's not pretty and neither is the film and that's why it is memorable to me; it's still relevant today.
I'm not a huge fan of excessive sex or violence, but if it fits the story really well, then so be it, I knew what I was getting into with this film and the sex and violence never really got on my nerves, I actually found the ending heart pumping and righteous.
The film also left me with questions to think about, how far can justice actually be served? The finale of the film was a dark turn, if the film wasn't already dark enough, and, like I said, left many questions for the viewer to think about. It was a very powerful film.
It looked lovely and sounded lovely too, I was a bit put off when I first heard the soundtrack but as time moved on I grew to like it. The film was also clever and had some black comedy thrown in for good measure. Haunting, 8MM should not be missed.
