Review of 84 Charing Cross Road (1987) by Naische F — 13 Jul 2008
Very lighthearted movie about a woman from New York City (Anne Bancroft) who shares correspondence with a rare book dealer (Anthony Hopkins) in London over several decades. This one starts slowly and then develops gradually, especially with solid performances from the leads and even the supporting cast, e.
G. Judi Dench as the wife of Hopkins! The changes throughout the decades are well documented from both sides of the Atlantic and assures the viewer that both cultural trends and issues are respected and considered.
Not for everyone, but fans of classic cinema will have a good time!
