Review of 8: The Mormon Proposition (2010) by David Ray G — 23 Jul 2010
Yes, it does feel like this was a film school project and it should have been much deeper and elaborate for a documentary. But I loved it nonetheless, and Reed Cowan did a great job. I thought it was ingenious to have Dustin Lance Black (who won the Oscar for his screenplay of Milk) do the narration, even if most of the documentary is taken up by interviews.
I will not criticize or judge this movie more than that. It's enough to say that I was crying throughout the whole thing. Gay marriage and gay rights debate hits right at home for me and it makes me so angry - so angry - to see such hatred from "religious" people. It makes me angry to see love being condemned because it's not aimed towards the opposite sex. All those who took away rights from gay people and all those who marched with banners convincing their homophobic, little minds that homosexuality is a choice have never loved anyone so I pity them for that. If you know what love is, you can't possibly support a law that will ban other people to proclaim their love. It's just so overwhelmingly personal to me and if I start now I'll never end. Plus, this is supposed to be a review and not a thesis, so this is where it ends.
