Review of 8: The Mormon Proposition (2010) by Daniel M — 11 Dec 2010
This documentary pays tribute to the gay couples, following one couple in particular throughout the film, who were exhilerated when the option to be married arrived and then so rapidly got pulled out from under their feet by the manipulative forces that were portrayed from within the Mormon church/religion. I found myself appauled at the level of judgement and hatred that came from a group of individuals that are "prophets and apostles of God" who so willingly enforced such horrible behavior be enacted by its members. Pretty sure God doesn't harbor such feelings of hatred and anger so I can't imagine he would be passing down "instruction" to persecute others in the fashion displayed in this film.
I also was disgusted with the notion that the Mormon leaders forces its members to write checks of certain deemed amounts of money based on what they think these members can give. Are you shitting me?!?! Way to extort a person of faith by brainwashing them into thinking they are less worthy of heaven and shunned by the church if they do not give money. What a load of crap!
Anyway, I'm hoping this film brings to the forefront the many boundaries crossed by the Mormon church, both politically and civilly, and ignites thought provoking conversations among the masses. So that when the next voting time comes around again that happens to have a gay marraige proposition involved (or any civil right matter that may go against Mormon doctorine), the Mormon leaders will not be nearly as successful as to persuade or manipulate the actions of others.
