Review of '71 (2014) by Johnathan D — 21 Mar 2015
'71 is a film full of potential with a gritty story that attempts to depict Belfast during the troubles.
The first part of the film is almost faultless in its recreation of a violence and effortlessly grips the viewer instantly. However, as the film continues it evolves into a lesser state of a gangland military hybrid that dilutes the original tones of the film. Despite the thematic decrease, '71 still concludes satisfyingly and although it does not supersede in creating an epic tale of survival it is still in deserving of a look at. 8.5/10.
