Review of '71 (2014) by Sjwaria L — 12 Jun 2016
'71 is an intense, exacting, compelling historical drama that is gripping from start to finish. It concerns itself with a young British soldier on one dangerous night in Belfast in 1971. Gary Hook is sent to Belfast to be part of the British military presence in a city wracked raw by ongoing violence between the IRA and Loyalists.
During a riot Hook is separated from his men and then endures a night of terror and grim reality as all sides in the conflict try to find him. This film feels authentic to the extreme and paints a picture with great detail of human loss and unending sadness and desperation.
Performances are all first class.
