Review of 61* (2001) by Amanda X — 20 Sep 2004
Now even though many people why in the hell I gave this a ten and its because a nine just didnt feel right. This movie is just a drama that never really makes you cry but it will fill you with so many emotions that you will come out complete in the end.
The visuals of the movie and the amazing character development of Roger Marris (Barry Pepper) and Micky Mantle (Thomas Jane) will make you feel as if you know them. It also has an amazing way of telling their story, never leaning towards either actor more, except when it is necessary for characterization.
At the end of this movie I was almost dead when I found out it was directed by comedian Billy Crystal. I think this movie should be watched by all baseball fans and movie fans for its raw emotion and just love for the time/lifestyle of the game.
