Review of (500) Days of Summer (2009) by Lloyd H — 27 Jan 2013
This film showed that Joseph Gorden-Levitt was destined for great things. And his later inclusion in the supporting casts of both TDKR and Inception was a stroke of casting genius by Christopher Nolan.
After watching this film I was so pleased Levitt was noticed by somebody like Christopher Nolan, so then he could get his break to perform in huge blockbusters like TDKR. He has also shown in 2012's Looper that he can command the stage in a central role.
Zooey Deschanel is a great actress, very reliable at pleasing her audiences with what they want and expect of a female lead. She's able to be the same character in everything she appears in and it doesn't get old, her character is so likeable and familiar, its so easy for the audience to just go with it so to speak.
For example her character in 500 days of summer is similar to her characters in 'Elf' and 'Yes Man', and she's always given an excuse to sing. But she's got a great voice, so let the lady sing.
This is a brilliant character piece and with inclusion of a great soundtrack including songs from The Smiths, 500 Days of Summer is a great film. As somebody who is forced by my other half to watch rom coms, this will always be one I'll be happy to watch by my own accord.
