Review of 5 to 7 (2014) by Late R — 16 Aug 2017
A story about love, writing and culture, '5 to 7' is subtly directed with a beautiful score and some memorable snippets of writing, particularly those from the benches in NY City's Central Park.
Unfortunately, there were too many things that stood out as being not-quite-right to make this film great, things such as Yelchin's character seeming far too awkward and, quite frankly, too boring to be able to captivate Marlohe's character.
But the film's biggest flaw is also the most obvious: the romance between the two feels scripted, like something straight out of a novel, and that diminishes its effect greatly. Thankfully, the ending was affecting and sincere-feeling which went a long way to saving it.
