Review of 49th Parallel (1941) by Yogesh R — 11 Aug 2007
As a group of Nazis flee across Canada, trying to get into the then-neutral United States, they run across a fur trapper with a horrible "Fronsh-Canadeen" accent (an unintentionally hilarious Olivier), an effete professor who turns to be a bad-ass (Howard), a staunch religious leader (Walbrook, who's quite the bad-ass himself), and a would-be deserter (Massey) who rises to the occasion when it comes time to defend his pants.
Powell and Pressburger's propaganda picture is a crowd-pleasing delight, backed up by a Ralph Vaughan Williams score.
