Review of 48 Hrs. (1982) by Hunter D — 17 Mar 2008
Aside from 'The Warriors', this is probably the most culturally relevant film that Walter Hill has made, at least in the mainstream. While it's got some problems (Nick Nolte takes himself WAY too seriously), I was still laughing and having a good time.
Eddie Murphy cracks me up in this film, and his edgy brand of comedy that he was doing on the stage during this period actually comes through during certain scenes. The action scenes are also fast, bloody, and brutal, which was a big surprise coming from a film I thought was going to be a laugh-fest.
As far as buddy-cop movies go, you can do better (then again, you could do a hell of a lot worse), but I still had a good time with it.
