Review of 48 Hrs. (1982) by Shane D — 01 May 2012
At 1982 this is one of the earlier offerings in the canon of classic 80s buddy-cop films and is also most notable for kicking off the cinematic career of SNL alumni Eddie Murphy. In 2012 it serves as not much more than a nostalgic late Friday night TV movie, with an entertaining performance (if a little rough around the edges) from Murphy and a rare look at Nolte during a time when he was considered a young(ish) star.
As far as the plot its your standard fare, mismatched partners (technically not partners here but go with it), a couple of slimy crooks who happily shoot whoever cross them, an angry police chief and plenty of saxophone and steel drum on the soundtrack.
Vintage 80s action-comedy. I preferred the sequel to be honest but this does have a gritty quality and pre-dates Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop and the rest...
