Review of 47 Ronin (1994) by Sage H — 24 Apr 2014
47 Ronin should have been 47 minutes, because the movie feels like a long time. I love sword fighting movies I really do, and I can usually accept anything but I have to admit the martial arts in this film were very poor.
Not only was there barely any action at all, it seemed that none of the characters or creatures in the movie had blood. Maybe it's because they wanted to keep it for younger audiences but I feel this is a really missed attempt at something that could have been awesome.
Good sword fights are hard to come by these days and this movie had a big opportunity. The acting was ok for what it was and the effects nice looking but the movie just moves kind of slow and to be honest this almost seemed like a kids movie.
Didn't hate it but I didn't enjoy it that much, just a disappointing wasted opportunity to make something incredibly epic that falls very flat for action and science fiction fans.
