Review of 47 Ronin (1994) by Phillip D — 28 May 2014
If Keanu Reeves is supposedly to be half-Japanese, perhaps some actor who looks vaguely Asian at all should have played his role. It wouldn't have helped this movie any better, but it would have made it feel less wrong. Movies made for 3D effects and 3D effects alone are not movies, they are exhibitions of technology. There's a story to be told here, but it isn't being told in the best possible way.
Also, feudal Japanese stories wherein everybody speaks English are unnecessary. Maybe if Reeves learned Japanese...? No, this would still suck.
