Better than expected, but definitely pretty damn predictable. 47 Meters Down is about two sisters named Lisa (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Claire Holt) who are vacationing together in Mexico. Kate convinces her sister Lisa to do a cage dive with Great White Sharks.

..and boy do they. They meet two young men who get them a deal on a boat that takes them out to the sea. The boat is kinda shitty though and soon enough the cage breaks with the two of them in it. Stuck on the ocean floor and with dwindling oxygen Lisa and Kate have to work together to get out of the shark infested waters alive.

It's a simple premise and most of the movie takes place in the damn cage, but the tension actually works here. The sharks look cool, but are very much CGI (some scenes are very obvious while some aren't).

I would say it's not scary, but tense. Here's a kicker. Holt does really well as Kate. She's actually likeable. Moore as Lisa though is one of those characters that you'd rather watch just get eaten quickly.

Moore seems to phone this one in delivering some of the clumsiest dialogue I've heard this year. Overall, it's a shark film....that doesn't actually feature too much sharks. I think last years shark film of the summer The Shallows (2016) was a better overall film.

I would skip this one and wait to rent it!
