Review of 47 Meters Down (2017) by Anthony B — 07 Feb 2018
I got a little scared when the characters were 47 meters down but I was even more terrified when I was 47 minutes in and realized I still had another half of a movie to sit through. Without trying to be clever, the film has a decent enough set up and its leads are believable, plus Mandy Moore is straight up adorable.
The problem with 47 Meters Down is that it is basically just an Open Water sequel with a jacked up budget. Things happen from time to time but the thrills are few and far between once you get past the eeriness of the setting/scenario.
Also, the ending to this film is such a gigantic f**k you to the audience that if f**k yous were sharks it'd be a great white. Seriously, I cannot stress enough how much I hate the ending, specifically, the final minutes to this otherwise tolerable time waster.
It was a cheap mindf**k device used by hack writers looking to score points for shock value but in reality it is just insulting... and a downer.
