Review of 47 Meters Down (2017) by Allan C — 06 Oct 2018
Mandy Moore and her sister take a shady swim-with-the-sharks guided tour in Mexico run by salty sea captain Matthew Modine, and guess what? It goes all wrong. Their shark cage falls to the bottom of the ocean floor and they are left with a limited air supply and hungry sharks surrounding them.
The paper thin premise writer/director Johannes Roberts manages to surprisingly hold the audiences interest and makes the actions of the characters seem logical and credible, which is more than you get in most of these types of films.
While "47 Meters Down" is nowhere in the same ballpark as "Jaws" or even "Jaws 2," it's a solid piece of nature-gone-wild entertainment that's better than your average SyFy Channel shark movie and can favorably be compared to other decent, if not great, shark films like "The Shallows" or "Open Water.
" FUN FACT! 47 meters is 154.2 feet.
