Review of 45 Years (2015) by Ray S — 31 Aug 2015
45 Years have the critics falling over themselves to give these two fine actors a 5 star film . They are WRONG. Nothing wrong with the acting . But this film is shallow , with nothing whatever to teach us , very boring , and incredibly depressing . Mike Leigh shows us how it should be done.
I'm afraid Charlotte Rampling has a face , so depressing, that it makes you want to jump off a cliff , humour ( as with Juliet Stephenson ) is anathema to her . And unfortunately Tom joins her. I'm not averse to serious subjects ( witness Woody Allans Interiors-- which outshines this film in every way). They crown this sad sad boring shallow movie off , with a sex scene which will leave you cringing .
I love Tom and Charlotte , fine actors,.
but this film is just plain bad.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
Ray.
