Review of 45 Years (2015) by Nicholas E — 14 Jan 2016
Very much a slow paced drama.
But this is such a good thing for what what we are introduced to and whats to come!
This is all about the story and incredible acting by Rampling and Courtenay.
It starts off simply with the essence of a happy couple, Kate & Geoff, living their idyllic lives together for 45 years with the prospect of their 45th anniversary party coming up soon. A letter to Geoff changes all that and from there the relationship weaves into something quite unpredictable and unsettling with minimal dialogue but a visual acting treat that takes you to a place where you question what is real or fiction right up until the very last scene at the party.
I then ended up questioning the whole relationship as an illusion.
Did Geoff act his love. Did he not want a baby because of his past. Did he change things in the relationship to make him ignore the past! (photographs!!!).
Yes, and then you understand why Kate implodes within.
45 Years, a must for couples everywhere.
