Review of 45 Years (2015) by Magnus S — 28 Feb 2016
Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling were both making excellent movies in the 1960s so it is a testimony to both their acting ability and their resilience that they are still making quality films 50 years later.
45 Years is a movie about marriage, love, memory and secrecy which all come together while a couple. Kate and Geoff, are preparing to celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. A letter in the mail threatens to undermine the foundations which have seen them build their lives together all these years.
A body has been found located deep in a glacier and preserved intact for fifty years. It is the body of Keith's previous love, Katya, who fell off a mountain in Switzerland while she and Keith were hiking.
Kate is aware of this event but it remains clouded in mystery. Secret pictures of Katya kept by Geoff in the attic suggest that things may not have been quite as she had been led to believe. Rampling is wonderful and has just received her first ever Oscar nomination.
