Review of 44 Inch Chest (2009) by Simon M — 31 Jan 2010
Gather together some great older UK actors and let them at it. That's the name of the game in this tale of a man who has been completely devastated by his unfaithful wife. He and his old timer gangster buddies come together in a rundown building to kill the young man who's been with her.
But things aren't going to plan. Despite the dark premise and gut wrenching despair felt by the wronged man, the film is surprisingly funny, with plenty of salty British humor. John Hurt is at his crustiest.
Ian McShane at his most suave. And Ray Winstone is the very model of a man who has had his heart ripped out and his life destroyed. If you enjoy character studies, British crime films, or want to see how a man feels when he's betrayed, check this film out.
If you're offended by strong language, avoid it.
