Review of 42nd Street (1933) by Bex G — 30 Sep 2007
The best musical from the 1930's there really isnt nothing to fault with this wonderful film. It moves at a fantastic pace, and the direction and acting just come alive in the underground of Broadway.
Ruby Keeler maybe top billed and wins out in the end, but the film belongs to the gorgeous and oh so funny double act of Ginger Rodgers as Anytime Annie (the only time she said no, was when she didnt hear the question) and the fabulous Una Merkel a woman who should be on the same heights as Eve Arden.
. excellent film, and one that never bores.
