Review of 42nd Street (1933) by Raeha B — 12 Feb 2008
A classic musical featuring the first plot about a chorus girl getting her lucky break and making it big. There's a lot of fat surrounding that main plot involving love affairs and gangsters that could have easily been cut.
The singing and dancing are quite lovely in their timelessness, but now also a bit silly. However, the story is familiar and lovable. The film does seem quite a bit dated, but certain themes still ring true - like the worship of stars and the money vs.
art scenario.
