About as bleak as it gets. 'The banality of evil' has never felt more appropriate for the society and environment in which these girls exist. Almost every scene depicts the difficulties and constraints of everyday existence, in washed-out colours and near silence.

Within this, two friends go through a day from Hell by anyone's standards. Anamaria Marinca is superb, as she tries to hold herself together against all the odds, and goes way beyond the pale to support her friend.

And perhaps worst of all, we are given hints throughout that these are by no means the only women to experience this nightmare. By no means an easy watch, but highly recommended.
