Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by C F — 02 Apr 2009
Just a piece of incredibly powerful filmmaking. It's a period piece that conveys its ideas not through preachiness and heavy-handedness, but through its nearly flawless execution. Mungiu presents a stark look at a series of events, through excellent cinematography and an extremely effective use of long takes (most notably the dinner table scene).
Great, interesting performances by each of the main actors as well. All of these combine to make the film an undoubtedly tense and devastating experience.
