Review of 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) by Andy N — 01 Jan 2015
Big, dumb fun. That is probably the best thing I can say about this 300 prequel...sequel...deleted scenes(?). The characters are all pretty much blank slates but the action is plentiful, the gore is produced in spades, and the music is as rousing as the first film.
Eva Green's Artemisia is the most interesting character and as in some of her other films, I think she puts it in her contract, she has one of the weirdest sex scenes committed to film. As with most films that employ almost 100 percent CGI there are plenty of good shots, but when they're bad they stick out like a sore thumb.
