Review of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010) by Roxanne R — 09 Oct 2010
Its very good and although not as great as the first one but it still has plenty of action, thrills, blood and gore to satisfy hard core vampire fans! I recommend you watch the first one (30 Days of Night) so you understand the plot better.
In this one, the lone survivor of the Alaskan town ravished by vampires (Stella) travels nationwide trying to convince others that vampires exist. Unfortunately she is met with skepticism and laughter and Stella is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls (Rhys Coiro, Diora Baird and Harold Perrineau) offers an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith (Mia Kirshner), the vampire queen responsible for the assault on her sleepy Alaskan town.
I thought it was kind of funny to cast Mia Kirshner in the role of Lilith because she was so prominent in the L Word as Jenny- and its difficult to see her as a cold blooded, fierce, savage vampire on this one.
What I find so terrifying about this franchise is that the vampires are shown in their most primitive aspect. They are ghouls, with a complete lack of humanity. You can't reason with them because their one track mind is to kill and feed.
These are not the Bram Stocker Dracula vampires who seduce and enchant the victim...OH NO! These are mean, horrific, blood thirsty creatures devoid of a soul or compassion. There is plenty of killing with not only guns but also cinder blocks, machetes, blades, etc.
Seen in blu-ray was awesome, you can enjoy every detail, very realistic, gritty. This one takes place in Los Angeles where Stella meets a group of people also seeking revenge for the death of their loved ones at the hands of these vampires.
Will this be the last one? NO...expect a third installment for sure! Recommended for adults!
