Review of 3 Women (1977) by Stella D — 14 Oct 2010
Hypnotic Altman drama about roommates with strikingly contrasting personalities who mysteriously swap identity roles after a confrontation resulting in an accident. Lucid and often surreal, this is a wonderfully acted film from the leads.
If Shelley Duvall didn't impress you in "The Shining", she will here; this is one of her best roles, in my opinion. An eerie score only serves to punctuate the provocative symbolism that runs abound in what can be seen as a simplistic drama or a complex character study.
Is this movie like a dream? Or is it a nightmare? It's both, find out for yourself.
