Review of 3 Ninjas (1992) by Huron W — 28 Aug 2010
Oh, a classic film from my childhood. This movie made me believe I was a ninja...a belief I may or may not hold to this day. Watching as an adult, I can truly see how cheesily most of this movie is geared towards kids.
The three boys acting abilities are clearly those of moderate child actors. Fester, Hammer, and Marcus are pretty ridiculously stupid characters and are just over the top, in both the good way and the bad way.
I really do like Victor Wong's character Mori Tanaka. I liked his fight scenes, especially his climactic battle against Snyder (who is an excellent sleezy bad guy). That last battle is actually pretty epic for a kids movie, and has some fair depth to it, if one so chooses to read in to it.
I also really enjoy the fact that the score changes whenever Mori is fighting; most of the film has a cheap, cheezy, kid sounding soundtrack, but when Mori fights, it turns very serious and gives you a sense that a real fight is happening.
Overall, this movie isn't great, but it's got a lot of good memories associated with it.
