Review of 3-Iron (2004) by Mattias E — 21 Aug 2009
The empty house as a perfect symbol of the empty life of the soulless Seoulian. To liven things up a bit the protagonist in Bin Jip decides to live in some of these houses. And to do some serious housework.
Bin Jip is heavy on social commentary but with a beautiful featherweight feel. For once, Kim Ki Duk's fascination for violence is backed by some serious reasoning on the misogynistic nature of traditional Confusian culture and the proneness to violence it provokes.
Also, Kim's background as painter is evident in each frame.
