Review of 28 Weeks Later (2007) by Trey K — 28 Sep 2011
Well I was more interested in this following the relatively high praise it received. How my excitement was curbed by the opening segment though. It's the irritating over use of the shaky-cam and the even more irritating speed-zombies chasing Robert Carlysle through a field to that rock song that ran through the original film felt more like a music video than a horror film. That's one thing I hate about this amped up post-modern culture we seem to be in. Less never seems to be enough.
28 Weeks does tone down the excess following the opening scenes but it's little more than a passing interest. It is concerned with the aftermath of the events of the first film which involves a lot of paranoia about the virus. Has it really been eraticated? Well of course it hasn't or we wouldn't have much of a film here would we? Also we're working in a short time-frame here and frankly who wants to wait around for any slow torturous transformations? Not these film-makers, the zombies may as well 'turn' straight away that way we can get through all this nonsense a lot faster.
The first film was interesting but flawed, this is less interesting and it's shortcomings are greater.
