Review of 28 Weeks Later (2007) by Dov D — 06 Oct 2012
Following Boyle's masterpiece is a tall order, and wisely, Fresnadillo doesn't try to mimic everything that made it's predecessor so powerful, but instead goes an entirely different direction.
Where Boyle had hand to hand, civilian vs infected combat, Fresnadillo has an entire heavily armed army against 15,000, mostly infected civilians. Similarities between the two works such as the brilliant instrumental score and the brutal violent sequences gave this film a familiar feel, but a lack of acting quality combined with a significant shift of meaning from the human condition to survival at any costs has rendered this film to only a 3.
5 star rating.
