Review of 28 Days Later (2002) by Eddie M — 12 Jun 2012
28 Days Later cuts deeper than other "zombie" movies, like Dawn of the Dead, through its depiction of the effects on humanity. The film, however, is let down by a very split cast - Murphy, Harris and particularly Eccleston as the haunted, corrupt Major are all fantastic.
However, Megan Burns sheer inability to act severely detracts from several scenes; the poignancy that would otherwise be present is dulled and completely suspends any suspension of disbelief. However, this particularly irksome factor is only minor set beside Boyle's bleak, foreboding vision of a deserted, destroyed England, ravaged by the Rage virus; the haunting soundtrack, partially supplied by Godspeed You! Black Emperor only adds to the haunting atmosphere in the dystopian horror.
