Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Jess K — 29 Dec 2009
I think I'll settle on a 4/5 for this one, for now, because overall it's a good movie, but my thoughts may change later. My reactions changed a bit going through it. For the first hour or more, I felt like I was watching a bullet-point story.
Several characters are established or mentioned early, and there was some list saying that certain combinations needed to have scenes together. It seemed like random moments all occurring on the same day.
The acting though is really good, so towards the climax later on I was having a really strong emotional response, to my surprise. Then right at the end is a really long, extended what-if sequence that just gets more and more absurd.
A really weak ending but a great cast. And does everyone in New York really argue this much?
