Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Katy A — 16 Nov 2008
In 25th Hour, Spike Lee shows us the last hours of Monty Brogan's freedom, before he must report to prison for 7 years. In these last hours, we see Monty's major relationships tested and brought to the brink, all in a not-very-post-9/11 New York City.
Every actor in the film is at the top of his game, making you feel their emotions. Spike Lee touches on a dearth of themes in this movie, and it will take several watches to get the full scope of it. In my opinion, this is a severely underrated film and should be put among the best of the Spike Lee Joints.
