Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Frederik J — 05 Feb 2009
When Spike Lee's not looking to instigate pointless racial controversy, he's usually out making pretty average movies. If it weren't for some "propagadaish" drum rolls and hard lined 9-11 references that have no place in this movie, it would have been a film for the ages.
But it still ends up being a movie that is affecting on multiple levels. It's all about choices. Maybe Spike Lee should have made the choice to keep nonsense out of a fantastic movie.
