Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Brice B — 04 Sep 2010
A great film with tremendous performances and a wonderful screenplay. Stellar looks at humanity, friendship, grudges and forgiveness. At first I was a little 'stunned' at how the twist turned out.
And then I realized, wait a minute, this movie has no twist. It's not that kind of movie. And it isn't. This is a drama at the lowest form in terms of context. The situations and story the character's revolve around isn't necessarily cut out to be considered your typical drama film.
Which is what makes this movie so different. Ed Norton I believe is at his best in this movie. He has such a tame, yet balled-up angry persona we can truly feel his emotions when he shares them in a 5 minute reflection.
Norton's soliloquy consists mainly of "dissing" everyone in NYC. I don't know about you but that takes courage and balls. Courage to stand up to the filth he sees in NYC, and Balls to say it.
There you'd probably have to give credits to the author and Spike Lee for showing it in such a powerful way.
