Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Alex K — 10 Mar 2013
I first heard about this movie when the AV Club said it was one of the defining films of the last decade. I can agree with that claim. This film is a great representation of these tumultuous times in which we live.
Also, I thought the screenplay was simply one of the best I have heard in a long time. The cast is phenomenal, and the story is very good. By the end you can really feel the anguish of the characters.
I was impressed by Lee's direction. I've never been a fan, but I respect his stuff. The part of the film where Norton names all the individual races and stereotypes living in the city was a bit too Spike Lee for its own good, but it was still a very good part of the film.
I thought this movie was fantastic, and a great study of character and circumstance.
