Review of 24 Hour Party People (2002) by Eoin H — 04 Nov 2007
If you like Steve Coogan you will probably enjoy this trip through Madchester, the days of the Hacienda, Joy Division and the Happy Mondays.
I dont dislike Steve Coogan but I simply cannot watch him without the ghost Alan Patridge affecting things. Here as Tony Wilson we have moments of very high affectation... edging much too closely to Partridge. For me.
But the film does capture the madness of the time... the Ryders poisioning 3000 pidgens is classic. Oh, and the music is fantastic. A must see if you're into any of these bands.
