Review of 24 Hour Party People (2002) by Alex W — 12 Aug 2013
It is clear that 24 Hour Party People is more a film about capturing the essence and spirit of the vibrant Mancheter music scene and its times than actually giving an understandable account of its history and importance in shaping the music landscape.
However, Winterbottom is very successful at doing just that and in the end the film feels like the ultimate faithful and frantic art house experience that the fans could have hoped for. Steve Coogan's performance as the snob and idealistic visionary Tony Wilson is praiseworthy.
