Review of 21 (2008) by Jay L — 18 Jul 2010
I did'nt expect too much from 21, but the film entertained for sure, it gets it done. Robert Luketic directs with a kinetic and face paced tone in this movie. A story, loosely based im sure, on a true story of a group of brilliant MIT students who went to Vegas along with their professor and made a fortune by counting cards. Blackjack is the game, which is beatable if you can keep track of the true count number on a hot or cold deck. This takes a gifted mind, and if done right and discreetly, can win you millions.
A great cast including Jim Sturgess as a quiet and shy Boston kid that lives a double life in Vegas. The always great Kevin Spacey as the group's leader and professor. Laurence Fishburne as an old school Vegas thug hot on the trail of the group. Also with Kate Bosworth, Aaron Yoo, and Liza Lapira. Watch as a quiet college kid's routine and boring life gets turned into a life full of high stakes gambling, high roller suites, clubs, money, and danger. Cool story, wild that a group of students actually experienced something like this.
