Review of 21 (2008) by Cory B — 23 Jan 2015
This movie gets a lot of crap for not following the "true story" which is quite unfair. I read the book "Bringing Down The House" that this movie is based off of and actually couldn't believe that someone would publish such a boring story. At best, the book was just bragging rights for these smart MIT students and teachers to brag about how smart they are. This movie, which is only loosely based off the book, was so much better. The movie captured the true essence of what it's like to be a card counter in Vegas. They may have stretched reality a little bit with the violent parts but it really helps to set the tone for the movie and turn what would have been a boring, typical, gambling movie into something quite special.
The critic score obviously doesn't agree with the audience score which just proves once again that you can't always trust what critics say about movies. If you have not seen this movie yet I urge you to ignore the critics and give it a shot for yourself.
