Review of 2046 (2004) by Gabrielle J — 09 Jan 2008
A highly artistic movie! Multiple interpretations and interconnections can be made. The science fiction story metaphorizes the constant freezing of emotions that all persons of the 50s plot seem to suffer from. Even though it does not deny passion, true love and opening up is not possible for any of the figures. All they can do is play for saving themselves and suffer neverthelless because one part of their soul is conquered by their past memories and cant give them free. The train of 2046 symbolizes the place where all the old memories are stuck, on the way to nowhere. Nobody can leave it...Also the picture language of the film is of beautiful abundance and always ambiguous.
Surely quite demanding for the average viewer, but this is something to adore!
